This is a great craft for older children who are able to draw and use scissors. However, if you have younger children who aren't able to use scissors or can't draw well, you might want to keep a few tips in mind:1. To add a personal touch, allow your child to color each piece of construction paper before you begin the project. It will make your flowers that much more decorative.
2. If you'd prefer to keep the flowers clean and simple, let your child color a regular sheet of construction paper while you create your Valentines Day Bouquet of Flowers Craft. Use your child's colored construction paper to cut out a simple Valentines Day Heart Craft after you've finished your Valentines Day Bouquet of Flowers Craft.
To Make your Valentines Day Bouquet of Flowers Craft,
You Will Need:
- Red (or Pink), Green, and Blue Construction Paper
- Clear Contact Paper (preferably with a simple design)
- Black Marker or Pencil
- Scissors
- Double Sided Tape or Glue Stick
Making a Valentines Day Bouquet of Flowers Craft:
2. Fold one half of the construction paper, lengthwise in half.
3. Using a black marker or pencil, draw several half hearts down the side of the fold.
4. Cut out your hearts using the scissors.
5. Arrange 3 hearts, as shown. Using the double sided tape, stick them together on the side with the black lines you used to draw the half hearts.6. Turn the assembled hearts over. These will be your petals for your flowers.
8. Taking one half of your paper, fold it lengthwise.
9. Just like your red construction paper, draw several half hearts down the fold of the construction paper.
10. Use your scissors to cut out the green hearts.
11. Take one green heart and, using the double sided tape, affix it to the front side of your flower's petals.
12. Repeat all of the above steps to create as many of these flower buds as you would like. In this completed craft, I created a half dozen ( six) roses. You may create as many Valentines Day Flowers for your Bouquet Craft as you'd like.
13. Using your remaining green construction paper, cut out long strips for stems, one for each flower bud and tape them to the back of your flower buds.
14. You can cut the stems different lengths or all the same length, depending on the effect you wish to acheive.
15. Next, we will create the vase for your Valentines Day Bouquet of Flowers Craft. Fold the blue construction paper in half lengthwise.
16. Draw a half vase, shown in the picture to the left, and cut along the line.
17. Open the cut out, black line on the back. This is your flower vase.
18. Take your flower stems and arrange them together, taping them to each other and to your vase.
19. Take your clear contact paper and measure the amount you'll need to cover your vase. If necessary, make the area larger than you'll need. Cut the amount of paper away from the roll.
20. Peal the contact paper away from its backing.
21. Stick the contact paper to the blue vase, making sure the flower stems are between the blue construction paper and the contact paper. Smooth it down, making sure there are no bubbles or bunched spots.
22. Once you have the contact paper successfully stuck to your flower vase, cut the contact paper to match the shape of the vase. It's helpful to trim part of the vase as well.
